Unique Charcuterie Board Ideas

When I first heard about these, I was so confused and intrigued. Why do you need a cutting board as a display to put snacks on? Until one day, I bought my own, for a potluck.

I thought to myself, I’m going to try something new and I really liked the board I found on Amazon. After my first board, I kind of got obsessed. Disclaimer that I didn’t use this as a traditional cheese board, I turned this into a much more appealing way to display meals that are indian or asian fusion inspired. If you’re not into cheese or want to extend your pallet, don’t worry there are so many other unique ways to use this. Keep reading to see how I use my Charcuterie board.

First you need to get a board and I got mine from Amazon I will share the link here. I love this one and it’s my person favorite, it looks fancy and it has multiple uses. The utensils are helpful for cutting, picking things up and spreading cream onto bread. Choose one that appeals to you the most.

Butter Board

What you need:

  • Olivio Light Butter (using olive oil)
  • Green onions
  • Maple syrup
  • Basil & black pepper
  • Cream cheese
  • Chipotle pepper seasoning
  • Roasted red pesto
  • Whole grain seeded bread
  • Hummus

This was my first attempt at making a butter board, not the healthiest option, I know. But the ingredients and type of bread does make a difference. This was such a popular board spread and I highly recommend giving it a try.

Take your bread and break it into 4 slices and spread your butter with a knife onto the board, no wrong way to do this, think of it like an empty canvas. Add your basil, black pepper and maple syrup on top. You can sprinkle this or add more depends on your taste. Now, take the roasted red pesto and use the oil to spread all over the butter. You can add bits of the pesto into the butter too and gently fold everything into the butter using a small fork. Top it off with the green onions.

For the other two side spreads, one is just hummus with chipotle pepper seasoning, black pepper and some roasted red pesto oil. The other spread is veg flavored cream cheese (bagel spread) with chili flakes, green onions and chipotle pepper seasoning (optional).

Bread Spread

What you need:

  • 1 large bagel (I used jalapeño cheddar)
  • Hummus
  • Chipotle pepper seasoning
  • Black pepper
  • Red roasted pesto
  • Cream cheese
  • Maple syrup

This is a very easy and simple way to decorate your appetizer board for a party. The best part is that you don’t need to buy any bread. I used a bagel and sliced it into little circles and lighted toasted it. Its delicious, easy and looks aesthetic! You can add nuts in the little tray area on the board too.

Hummus spread: Hummus, red roasted pesto & black pepper

Cream cheese spread: Maple syrup, bagel cream cheese (veg flavor) & chipotle pepper seasoning

Chili Chicken Wrap Board

This was such a fun way to use this board. I made chili chicken with bell peppers, chili and onions sautéd. I also added cooked naan and layered it with the chili chicken and siracha mayo (or tomato chutney). In the mini dish, I added some fresh homemade cilantro chutney and in the other some fresh cilantro. Add these two on the wraps before taking a bite and there you go! A fun way to display your juicy meal with all the condiments. Learn how to make this dish, the recipe for this chili chicken and this fresh cilantro chutney is here.

Chicken Tikki Spread

I loved this unique tikki spread and kind of threw this together last minute. These are chicken tikkis that were airfried and then placed on this board. Half of these have breadcrumb coating while the other is without it. Very spicy and flavorful indian chicken kebab bites. One dish has the fresh cilantro chutney (click here for recipe) and the other dish is a sweet & spicy dip. I like that you can use the mini forks to pick these up and you can use the other utensils to break the tikkis apart into more bites. Find the recipe for the Chicken Tikki appetizers here.

I hope this was helpful and fun to see different ways you can play with your Charcuterie boards! If cheese and crackers aren’t your thing or you want to spice things up, try using your board this way too and see if you like it. I found it really fun and unique, didn’t expect such a great turnout. Comment below on your thoughts and share some ideas that you’ve tried / you want to try!
