Spicy McChicken At Home

This is so delicious, crispy, juicy and a real dupe for McDonald’s Spicy McChicken. Growing up, my family and I would always go to McDonald’s since I would insist on only eating where there was a playground. Every single time, I would always get the Spicy McChicken & small fries. To this day, I still crave this tempting sandwich until recently when I started thinking about why is this sandwich containing about 410 calories, but only 15g of protein? If you want to satisfy your craving while making sure that you’re having more than 15g of protein and not as many calories, but the same taste, you’re in the right spot. So let’s get started with everything you need!

Per sandwich: 230 calories – 62g protein – 4g fat – 9g net carbs

Ingredients:

  • 600g chicken breast
  • cornflakes (crushed crumbles)
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cayenne
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp salt (or less if preffered)
  • 2 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp celery powder (optional)
  • low calorie buns (I used keto buns 50 cal per bun)
  • lettuce chopped
  • red hot sauce
  • 7g light mayo

Let’s start building now..

  1. Take your chicken and cut it up into medium size pieces. Add this to a blender and remove the minced chicken into a bowl.
  2. In the bowl, add these ingredients to the minced chicken: cayenne, paprika, mustard, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, celery powder & black pepper.
  3. Fold the spices properly into the minced chicken so it’s fully incorporated.
  4. Now take some minced chicken and roll it into a ball (make sure it weighs 100-105 calories).
  5. Smash it down until its very flat. In the image below I made a mistake and kept the patties rounder which was not ideal and way too heavy. So then, I ended up making 12 instead of 6 patties (by slitting each patty in half and flattening it out).
  6. Then, get your crushed corn flakes in a bowl and add the patty into it so one side is face down in the corn flakes. Keep rotating the sides until mostly all of the patty is covered in enough corn crumbs.
  7. Repeat that step for the other 11 patties. Now add your red hot sauce (if you want a spicy sandwich, if you skip this step, you’ll make a crispy version instead which is also yummy; try both).
  8. Add a sprinkle of black pepper to each side of the patty and spray oil into your air fryer. Add your patties into the air fryer under 350 degrees (10-14 mins), make sure to carefully flip sides.
  9. When the patty is ready, take your buns and add a very light coating of butter & light mayo. Add the lettuce into the buns and top it off with the patty. (You can add onions, chilies, pickles & tomatoes to make it taste even better btw)
