This is my new obsession and I’m always making this! I never knew I would like bread until I went to Europe this year. I grew a lot of appreciation for coffee and most importantly the nutritiously rich food I was able to try, while traveling. Anything I ate was so fresh & light, just the way I like to cook my food. I used to dislike bread because of all the preservatives and harmful ingredients that can be found in it. This is why I stopped consuming any type of bread and stuck to homemade tortillas for so many years. After coming back from Europe, I did a lot of research on how their flour differs from the US. There are a lot of differences and European bread is definitely lighter, healthier and delicious ( I recommend doing research on this)! Now, I’m always making different types of bread by using European flour, without feeling conscious about what I’m consuming. I will link everything below, lets get started!
Ingredients:
- 3 cups Italian Flour
- 1 tsp Yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 1.5 lukewarm water
- In a very large bowl, add all your ingredients and mix it around in the bowl until everything starts to stick together (it’s okay if it looks really sticky & wet). Place a plastic wrap above the bowl and let it sit for 12-24 hours. The longer you wait, the better results you’ll get. Keep it in a warm & humid place for the best results.
- Once 12-24 hours have passed, the dough should have risen and should look wet and sticky. Take the dough (if it sticks, apply more flour to your hands) and form a baguette shape. You will easily get at least 2-3 baguettes.
- Make sure to score the top with a sharp knife after placing the baguettes in a tray. Gently cover the baguettes with a towel and let the dough rise for 1-2 hours in a warm place.
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees and fill a deep baking pan with 2 cups of hot boiled water, and place it on the lower rack, inside your oven. This will make the bread crispy on the outside. Place the bread on the middle rack. Remove water from the oven after 10 minutes. Keep on baking the bread for another 30 minutes or until golden crispy brown.
- Take the bread out of the oven and let it cool. I really like making a homemade melted butter & basil garlic spread on the baguette for some extra flavor (brush this on top) and top it off with a pinch of salt if you prefer that. Enjoy your crispy on the outside and soft & fluffy on the inside bread!
This is such a great snack or meal for a spread or even sandwiches! You can really eat this with anything and you won’t regret it. You will definitely taste the difference and feel light after eating this. You can use this recipe to make buns & bagels too, check it out below! Get creative and add a spread on top or cheese!
