Quick and Fluffy Bagels

This is one of my favorite and most shocking recipe. I am never going back to eating store bought stale bagels. This is so simple & you an make so many fresh, warm bagels at home! Personally, I really enjoyed the home cooked flavor and fresh feeling to this. I am obsessed with this recipe and I used French all purpose flour to keep it fluffy & light. I prefer Italian or French (mix 2 tsp of baking powder into the flour of choice) so that it becomes self rising flour which is a great option to use as well for this recipe. In my recipe I combined this french all purpose flour and baking powder. Check out the breads that I made using European flour here.

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375F. Place parchment paper or a silpat on a baking sheet. If using parchment paper, spray with oil to avoid sticking.
  • In a medium bowl combine the flour, baking powder and salt and whisk well. Add the yogurt and mix with a fork or spatula until well combined, it will look like small crumbles.
  • Lightly dust flour on a work surface and remove dough from the bowl, knead the dough a few times until dough is tacky, but not sticky, about 15 turns (it should not leave dough on your hand when you pull away).
  • Divide into 4 equal balls. Roll each ball into 3/4-inch thick ropes and join the ends to form bagels. (or you can make a ball and poke a hole in the center then stretch it slightly)
  • Top with egg wash (optional, you can use oil or butter) and sprinkle both sides with seasoning of your choice. Bake on the top rack of the oven for 25 minutes. Let cool at least 15 minutes before cutting.

The minute these came out of the oven, oh my gosh. So soft and fluffy! These will melt into your mouth and you can use this as a snack or any meal. The best part is that you can use any toppings: plain, sweet or savory. Don’t forget to leave a comment and subscribe!
